Jacques Lhuissier Fellowship

The Fellowship

This fellowship is named in honor of Jacques Lhuissier, a native of Paris who likely came to New France with the Carignan-Salières Regiment in 1665. It aims to promote the publication of essays on the descendants bearing the Lhuissier surname in the Americas.
Driven by a desire to raise awareness of the Lussier, Lucier, and Lucia surnames, Marcel Lussier founded the Association des familles Lussier in 2023. His goal was to share his discoveries and connect with as many cousins as possible. It is thanks to the financial contribution of this history enthusiast that the Association is able to offer this fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria

This fellowship is open to anyone interested in publishing the results of their research on the history of the extended Lussier family, particularly members of historical societies and historians, whether professional or amateur.

To be eligible, the manuscript must have been completed between January 1 and December 31 of the current year.

Anyone wishing to apply must submit three (3) hard copies of their manuscript, along with an application form. This form must include the applicant’s name, address, and phone number.

The jury members will evaluate the applications submitted for the grant based on the following criteria:

• The project’s origins;
• The quality of the historical research;
• The rigor of the intellectual approach;
• Quality of the layout and richness of the illustrations;
• Originality and innovation of the approach.

Article 1

The Jacques L’Huissier Fellowship consists of a $1,000 award to recognize a researcher’s work and is presented to the recipient at the association’s general meeting in the spring of the following year.

Article 2

Eligible for this fellowship are manuscripts, master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, and any other type of publication that the Association des familles Lussier deems relevant to include when announcing the competition.

Article 3

Each manuscript must be submitted in three (3) copies, typed with double spacing and printed on white letter-size paper, on the front side only. The title page must include the title of the work and the date of completion.

Article 4

Submitted texts, documents, or manuscripts must be accompanied by a short biography of the author (in three (3) copies).

Article 5

The jury reserves the right not to award a grant if no manuscript is selected. The jury’s decision is final and binding.

Article 6

Any text, document, or manuscript submitted to the contest must be donated to the Association:
